Chungking
— Come with me
-
The Hungry Years, a rock club in Brighton that lasted almost 40 years, up to 2000. There are some reminiscences about it at the ‘Brighton - past’ Facebook page – people’s memories of wooden floors, pints of lager and lime, and going down there from the age of 13 and never being asked your age. Lots more memories here, at My Brighton & Hove.
I never went there though I moved to Brighton in 1991. What this ticket reminds me of is the 2004 album, ‘The Hungry Years’, by the quintessential Brighton band, Chungking. It’s not rock ‘n’ roll and they wouldn’t have played it down the Hungry Years, but it’s perfect. It starts like this: Come With Me.
And this is Chungking today (on Soundcloud), making beautiful music again – and recording it just along the road, on the very same seafront street, Marine Parade, as the old rock ‘n’ roll nightclub.

Chungking
— Beautiful world
… from the forthcoming album, Defender. Chungking is one of the best bands to have ever come out of Brighton, UK. They’ve been away for a while, but this is them back, on amazing, spinetingling form. Love.
